During a power outage, it is important to be prepared. You never know when a storm or other situation will knock out your power, so you want to have a plan of action before the lights go out. Here are 4 Things to Do During a Power Outage:

Keep Fridge & Freezer Closed:
If the power goes out, you don't want to open your fridge or freezer. The cold air will escape and all of your food will spoil quickly. Keeping as much cold air inside your fridge or freezer will allow food to stay fresher for longer with the hope that power returns to your home as soon as possible. Power outages can happen anywhere and they usually don't last too long, but it's always better safe than sorry when you're trying to keep your food cold in the fridge or freezer during a power outage.
Unplug all appliances and electronics:
During a power outage, it is important to unplug everything so that you do not waste electricity. If you have a surge protector, we’d recommend unplugging that too. Any appliances or electronics plugged into the wall should be shut down for safety reasons.
Charge your phone if possible, or Conserve Your Phone Battery:
A power outage is usually accompanied by phone outages too. If you are able to charge your phone, try to make sure it has some battery life before the lights go out so that if there's an emergency (and maybe even if there isn't), you can still use it for communication purposes. Items like portable chargers are a wise investment in situations like this. If you need to conserve battery during a power outage, you can turn your screen brightness down or put your device into airplane mode. You can also close out apps that may be draining your battery without realizing it.
Use a Generator:
If you have a generator, this is the time to use it. If you do not own one or are unable to borrow/rent one in an emergency situation like this, get creative! Maybe some of your neighbors who live nearby will be willing to let you plug into their outlets if they still have power.
